Reva Hari was brought up with the Canvarian way of thinking. She was told from a young age that her race was superior to the Volcarian people. It was explained to her that when they die, they slip into a cocoon type state called the Báb. It was believed that it was to prepare Canvarians for the afterlife, but was really an evolutionary trait that allowed them to change into Volcarian. While this was known by the religious communinity, they chose to keep it a secret to maintain the lie that they were the superior race. Something caused all Canvarians to evolve all at once, transforming them into Volcarians and making her the final Canvarian in existence.
